I'm afraid I need some help and advice in the area of getting ServerXMLHTTP
to avoid the dreaded 'Access denied' errors. Apologies in advance for the
number of separate questions here.
I'm trying to get a server-side VB6 application to talk to our web
application under W2k SP4. The server-side app has 'Unattended Execution'
set on its project. It's trying to use ServerXMLHTTP, via MSXML3 SP3, to
talk to a VB6 DLL hosted by IIS. My WinHTTP is V5.1.2100.1327. The web site
uses Integrated NT Authentication.
I've read some of the articles on this subject (e.g. 289481, and especially
291008), and checked the newsgroups. The fact I'm using SP3 seems to rule
out some of the reasons for 'Access denied'. However, the use of NT
authentication appears to be an issue for WinHTTP. I can just about
understand that a "proxy server" is therefore allowing NT authentication
locally, but what (if any) authentication is then performed across the
network?
My next task was to try Proxycfg, but I cannot seem to find an unbroken link
that allows me to download a copy. Has this now been deleted? I saw a
reference to it being deprecated as part of the "end of life" for WinHTTP
V5. Since I'm using WinHTTP V5.1, does this mean it is not applicable to my
system?
Assuming Proxycfg (or some replacement) is still required, would this have
to be utilised as part of our installation on customer sites? Is it a
supported tool? Some of our customers are extremely security conscious, and
I almost predict some sort of "push back" if we say we have to use this to
reconfigure their systems.
