Then not validation question but load first. You said xml stream and now
string variable. You can 'load' the first but may 'loadxml' the second. So
try to load or loadxml one of the two. e.g.

response.write doc.load(stream_variable)
or
response.write doc.loadxml(string_variable)

If you are successful, you can go further.
