Thanks for that very helpful info ... :-) So, if the data resoved by the DTD's Syatem ID doesn't start with an XML declaration (or, if it did, the spec, details how to decypher its encoding), I would probably need to use csome knd if heuristic algorithm to figure out qhether the enciding is UTF-8 or UTF-16 ...
