XSL + JavaScript

does anyone know how to do this :
I want to be able to pass a variable set in JavaScript to an XS
variable.
I have :
<script ipt language="javascript">

var currentPage =0;
function OnSubmitForm(ev)
{
if(ev.name == 'Next')
{
alert("I am here in Next");
currentPage++;
}
else if(ev.name == 'Prev')
{
alert("I am here in Prev");
currentPage--;
}
else {

alert(this.name);
}
return true;
}
function returnpage() {
return currentPage;
}

</script>

I want to do something like this :
<p> <xsl:value-of select ="currentPage variable from th
Javascript"</p>

I know the issue has to do with XSL scope rule. I just don't know ho
to get around it.

Thank
