Altova XMLSpy 2010 Adds Support for WSDL 2.0 and JSON, Enhances Functionality for Working with XBRL Data

VERSION 2010 DELIVERS WSDL 2.0 EDITING AND CONVERSION CAPABILITIES AND A NEW JSON EDITOR; EXPANDS FUNCTIONALITY FOR WORKING WITH XBRL TAXONOMIES

BEVERLY, Mass., November 10, 2009 – Altova® ( http://www.altova.com ) today announced the availability of XMLSpy® 2010, the industry leading XML editor. XMLSpy is available as a standalone product or as part of the Altova MissionKit®, an integrated suite of XML, database, and UML tools. In Version 2010, XMLSpy delivers a host of new functionality for users working with WSDL 2.0 and JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) technologies; enhanced support for working with XBRL data, including creating XBRL taxonomies, generating comprehensive XBRL documentation, and finding and sorting data in large taxonomies and instance files; and a newly redesigned and optimized scripting environment and forms editor for accessing and interacting with the XMLSpy API.

“As the XML landscape continues to evolve with the adoption of new technologies and standards – from XBRL to WSDL 2.0 and JSON – our users look to us to support these standards and provide them with the richest XML development environment in the industry,” said Alexander Falk, President and CEO for Altova. “With the release of XMLSpy 2010 we’ve responded to our customers’ requests by giving them their ‘most wanted’ features. So whether our users need to develop Web 2.0 or Web services applications, or create XBRL taxonomies, XMLSpy 2010 provides an affordable and comprehensive solution for working with the required technologies. ”

With the release of Version 2010, Altova XMLSpy includes the following new features:

  • Support for WSDL 2.0 – The unique graphical WSDL editor in XMLSpy 2010 now supports both WSDL 1.1 and WSDL 2.0, giving developers the choice of which version of the standard to work with. WSDL 2.0 represents a significant change compared to version 1.1, and the ability to create, edit, and validate either version in XMLSpy is a huge benefit. XMLSpy even supports one-click conversion between WSDL 1.1 and WSDL 2.0 files, allowing for easy migration. One of the features most often requested by Altova customers, WSDL 2.0 editing and conversion provides much needed functionality for Web services developers and helps provide for a seamless transition to the new version of the standard.
  • Enhanced XBRL Functionality – Several powerful new enhancements have been added to XMLSpy 2010 for working with XBRL data. The new XBRL Taxonomy Wizard complements the existing graphical XBRL Taxonomy Editor by giving users a head start when extending an industry-standard XBRL taxonomy or even starting from scratch creating a new taxonomy. A user simply enters a company’s name or ticker, and the XBRL Taxonomy Wizard automatically creates and saves required taxonomy files and displays the taxonomy in XBRL view, where it can be edited and refined in a graphical manner. XMLSpy 2010 now also generates comprehensive XBRL documentation, a must-have feature for anyone creating, editing, or extending an XBRL taxonomy. Multiple options for which information to include in the documentation are available, and documentation may be generated in HTML, Microsoft® Word, or RTF. Users can also now print the graphical representation of an XBRL taxonomy as it is displayed in the graphical XBRL view. Additionally, XMLSpy 2010 includes new functionality for finding and sorting data in large XBRL taxonomies and instance files. Users can sort elements by name, substitution group, or type, to make finding information in large, complex XBRL files, much easier.
  • Support for JSON – With v2010, XMLSpy adds to its long list of supported standards with new functionality for working with JSON. The new JSON editor gives users the flexibility to edit JSON files using the same intuitive text and grid/tree views and intelligent editing options available for XML editing. XMLSpy even provides one-click conversion between XML and JSON files, allowing users to, for example, quickly convert an XML file to JSON for transport with JavaScript, or convert data received in JSON format to valid XML. Unlike any other XML editor, XMLSpy 2010 supports both JSON and XML, giving developers an easy way to work with JSON in the same environment where they’re developing XML-based AJAX and Web services applications.
  • New Scripting Environment and Forms Editor – In XMLSpy 2010, a new redesigned and optimized scripting environment and forms editor has been added for users who need to modify or add functionality to their installation of XMLSpy. The new scripting environment gives XMLSpy 2010 users access to a majority of the .NET framework, new form editor controls, and enhanced entry-helpers and auto-completion functionality. Developers can also test and debug macros directly within the scripting editor and execute macros directly though an XMLSpy menu for optimum performance.
