Repository Interfaces

XMLSpy® 2008 includes support for various XML document and schema repository interfaces, as well as major version control systems. This offers enhanced groupware and collaboration features, which are directly accessible from within XMLSpy® 2008, as described below.

Microsoft Visual SourceSafe

  • XMLSpy® 2008 includes the capability to bind any XMLSpy® 2008 project to a project in a centralized version control or software configuration management (SCM) system, such as Microsoft Visual SourceSafe (or compatible products that support the same SCC API, e.g., CVS using Jalindi Igloo, PVCS, and StarTeam):

  • XMLSpy Project with SourceSafe binding.XMLSpy SourceSafe Menu

  • Once a project is bound to a version control system, XMLSpy® 2008 automatically monitors the status of all files and prompts the user to check out a file whenever he/she starts to modify the document. In addition, the actual state of each file is shown through checkmarks or locks in the upper right corner of each file icon.

  • This allows a team or workgroup to collectively work on a set of XML documents with proper version and access control. Since most version control systems support many document types, seamless management of XML documents, schemas, and XSLT stylesheets can be achieved using the same proven tools already commonly used by C++, Visual Basic, Java, and Web developers.

The repository and source control features are tightly integrated with the XMLSpy® 2008 project management features, which allow you to group your files and frequently used URLs into logical folders for easy access in the project window.

For an overview of available generic version control systems, please refer to the Configuration Management Tools section in the Open Directory project.
