The Altova MissionKit 2009 Provides Comprehensive Support for Working with XBRL Data

ALTOVA MISSIONKIT TOOLS ADD KEY FUNCTIONALITY FOR VIEWING, EDITING, VALIDATING, MAPPING, AND PUBLISHING XBRL

BEVERLY, Mass., February 5, 2009 – Altova® (http://www.altova.com), creator of XMLSpy® the industry leading XML editor, today announced that comprehensive support for working with Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) data is now available in the Altova MissionKit® Version 2009 (v2009), its integrated suite of XML, database, and UML tools. A host of powerful, new features allow users to view, edit, validate, map, and publish XBRL data. With intelligent wizards, graphical drag-and-drop design models, and various code generation capabilities, the MissionKit Version 2009 gives developers, technical professionals, and power users one easy-to-use suite of tools for transforming XBRL data into content that can be shared with business partners, stakeholders, and regulatory commissions. Additionally, Altova has decided to pass savings realized due to the currently favorable US$/EUR exchange rate directly to its customers – and is decreasing its US$ prices across the entire Version 2009 product line.

“With the recent passing of the XBRL mandate by the United States SEC, and similar regulations in other countries, companies of all types and sizes must now submit their financial data in XBRL format. For many organizations this is going to be a daunting task, especially for those having to scale back due to the current economic conditions,” said Alexander Falk, President and CEO for Altova. “The release of the Altova MissionKit 2009 gives users a cost-effective toolset for working with XBRL data. Whether you need to view and extend standard XBRL taxonomies, transform data from backend systems into XBRL, or render XBRL data in various formats for communication with shareholders and other interested parties, the Altova MissionKit provides companies with the XBRL functionality they need to help automate the way their financial data is captured, shared, reported, and analyzed.”

XBRL support that is now available in multiple products in the Altova MissionKit 2009 tool suite:

  • XMLSpy 2009 – Altova’s XML editor for modeling, editing, transforming, and debugging XML technologies now delivers new support for XBRL validation and taxonomy editing. A new engine in XMLSpy supports the validation of documents created based on XBRL 2.1 and XBRL Dimensions 1.0. This allows users to view and analyze XBRL taxonomies as well as validate XBRL instance documents against taxonomies. A powerful, graphical XBRL taxonomy editor has also been added in XMLSpy 2009. The XBRL taxonomy editor uses the same editing paradigm as the popular XMLSpy graphical XML schema editor, providing a visual representation of XBRL taxonomies. With easy-to-filter tabs, detail windows, and context-sensitive entry helpers, the XMLSpy 2009 XBRL Taxonomy Editor makes it easy to visualize, edit, and extend XBRL taxonomies. XBRL validation is also supported in AltovaXML® 2009, a free XML standards processor, providing developers with a royalty-free XBRL validator for use in their applications.
  • MapForce 2009 – Altova’s graphical data mapping, conversion, and integration tool now supports drag-and-drop mapping of XBRL taxonomies as a source or target in any data mapping project. This new functionality enables users to comply with financial and business reporting mandates by graphically mapping back-end data from accounting systems and databases to the XBRL format, or creating valid interim reports based on stored data. This support is also useful for aggregating public XBRL data and mapping it to a database, for instance, for further analysis. Users can map XBRL data to or from any other data format supported by MapForce, including XML, databases, flat files, Excel 2007 (OOXML), Web services, and EDI. MapForce transformations can be run on a one-time basis or automated through royalty-free code generation in Java, C#, C++, or via the command line. This ensures that XBRL mappings can be created once and re-used as needed for quarterly or annual reporting.
  • StyleVision® 2009 – Altova’s graphical stylesheet design tool now includes native support for the XBRL and XBRL Dimensions formatting requirement. Users can visually design financial reports for simultaneous output into HTML, RTF, PDF, and Word 2007 (OOXML) formats based on XBRL taxonomy requirements. This feature allows organizations to share customized business data in online or print format(s) with business partners, stakeholders, and regulatory commissions. An XBRL Table Wizard allows users to easily customize a table structure and specify concepts to be included in reports. Additionally, users can select the US-GAAP mode to have StyleVision automatically format the data according to the SEC requirements. A sample XBRL instance file can also be assigned to the taxonomy so that the progression of the design can be viewed on-the-fly.

Altova XMLSpy 2009, MapForce 2009, and StyleVision 2009 are available separately or as part of the value-priced Altova MissionKit 2009 tool suite.
